Leon County Virtual School

Grades 6-12 are served by LCVS. 

LCVS teachers are local teachers employed by Leon County Schools. With LCVS all funding stays in Leon County Schools.

There are registration deadlines for full-time and part time virtual students. Please see our enrollment windows page for the latest information on upcoming registration deadlines for students. 

As a public school, enrollment at LCVS is free to Leon County residents.

Students only require approval from their brick and mortar counselor if they are taking courses part-time with LCVS. See our Part Time Enrollment page for more information.

All online courses and programs are taught by highly qualified Leon County Public School instructors that meet Florida Department of Education certification requirements. You can be sure that quality in education is our highest priority.

No, students received their work for the week on Mondays and the work is due on Sundays. Students are required to follow the pacing guide; K-5 4% of the class per week and 6-12 6% of the class per week. 

Students in K-5 are provided live instruction two times per week via Zoom. ESE students in K-5 are taught through an inclusion model where their General Education and ESE teacher work with them during live lessons. 

ESE students are provided services based on their IEP. Students that require a learning strategies class in grades 6-12 will be scheduled into the course with an ESE teacher.

Students receive credit and are awarded a grade upon completion of a course segment. Students will receive report cards at the end of each semester; two report cards total for the year. 

You will have contact with your child’s online teacher(s) at least once a month to discuss their progress.  It will be very important that you supply your child’s online teacher(s) with a phone number and email address that you can be reached at.  You can contact the online teacher(s) at any time as well with questions.

Yes.  As long as a student has a computer and internet access they can continue to work in their online classes wherever they are.

With online classes, students (with the help of their parents/guardians) must make a greater effort to stay organized, create a schedule and manage their time, and work towards staying on pace with work.  As a parent/guardian, you will need to make sure you are periodically going online to check the progress of your child.

Students have the opportunity to develop skills related to organization and time management, develop a sense of responsibility, as well as take charge of their own learning.

If technical issues arise, your child’s online teacher(s) will be there for initial support.  You will also have access to a technical support team if the issue extends beyond the teacher’s ability.

This situation is okay.  Online learning may not be for everyone.  A student can drop an online class within the first 28 days without any negative consequences.  The student, parents/guardians, and teacher work together to make this decision.  Ultimately, we want to make sure that students are placed in a learning environment that is right for them.

Yes, each student will have a Chromebook checked out to them for use during the school year. 

LCVS students will have access to Classlink and the district resources provided through the platform.

A DBA is a Discussion Based Assessment that is a required part of the coursework. These discussions occur with the teacher via phone or Zoom and assess what a student has learned in a learning module. 

Each parent will setup up a parent/guardian account where they can monitor student progress and grades. 

Our teachers provide tutoring sessions. Students can sign up for these sessions with their teacher as needed. 

Yes, students in grades K-10 participate in the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking. All students required to test will participate during each of the 3 progress monitoring windows throughout the school year. Students are also required to take End Of Course exams for Biology, Algebra, Geometry, Us History, Civics and US Government. 

Yes, students can work ahead and accelerate their learning.
